The god of war in ancient Greek mythology, one of the twelve Olympian gods, son of Zeus and Hera. Unlike Athena who represents the war of wisdom and strategy, Ares symbolizes the cruelty, bloodiness, and ferocity of war. He wears armor and holds a spear, often marching into battle accompanied by the gods of fear and hatred, enjoying the slaughter and charge on the battlefield. Although he is often thwarted by his impulsiveness and irritability in myths, he is still the embodiment of martial spirit, wild power, and indomitable will, representing the most primitive desire for destruction and warlike instinct deep within the human heart.
